Commercial Paper
If once did not succeed, spend more. Now the government decided to pump money into "Commercial Paper" - unsecured short term promissory note issued by banks and corporations - whatever that is. When I first heard that, I scratched my head, what?! The government is going to buy off commercial newspaper/news media so that negative news about this financial crisis will be under control? Although I dismissed that immediately, I cracked up: it does make some sense, doesn't it? Unbelievable media hype.

The common concensus is that Roth is better than traditional. The reason(s)? Because Roth IRA/401K invest with after-tax money, if you expect your tax rate when retired to be higher than now, you should use Roth IRA/401K plan. But doesn't this only apply to the small number of wealthy group whose tax rate will be higher in the future when large lump sum of retirement fund is withdrawed? Today's Suzy Oman show pointed out one more advantage of Roth plan: If one needs to withdraw money from the plan prematurely, since Roth IRA/401K is already taxed, there won't be an issue of double taxing (when borrowing from traditional plan, when loans are repaid, it needs to be paid back using after tax money, hence the loan will be taxed twice when the money is eventually withdrawed at retirement).

Are you buying?

Today, the market was up 10% across the board. Did this convince you to jump out of the sideline? Starting the day, The Amateur was up 8%. At the end of the day, he was down a little less than 2%. Through SLO and this official round, he demostrated that he is the one who can swim against the rough water. At the early stage of the competition, Guru looked good. Now he is the one left far behind. This makes me re-think my own strategy.
