With nearly everything "taking it in the shorts" I'm less inclined to take a long position on anything, especially a high valuation "Internet Darling" like a search engine. GOOG is the preffered entity in this space, and it's decline from 714 to 446 speaks volumes.

The Question of the Week is better suited on a broader topic like; "which Fast Food restaurant has the coolest uniform" (because I'll be working there next week) or "which soup kitchen serves Cambell's Noodle" - times are grim, and most pundits are missing the big picture.

With a hot stock growing cold in a single day's trading, I'm not looking to increase my long position with anything. It's not pleasant, but Bear Stearns has thrown the gauntlet, and it appears what everyone has pretended wasn't happening - is happening.

I'm sure they'll be a brief uptick as a result of the FOMC meeting this week. If so, likely I'll be trimming my long position by 20-30% selling into the 120 minute rally that results. John Markman's piece this week suggests it's prudent to do so - and I'm thinking he's right.

It's not about timing the Market, as that's beastial hard - it's about not being the last guy holding the bag.

:

I don't mind heading into the backcountry, I can keep us in fish, and you've got the beer covered... it's who to bring with us?

Kinda like a financial "Noah's Ark."

First criteria is they've got to be entertaining, that way with the financial armageddon playing out - we've got some "in camp" amusement.

I figure JAudio and Uncle John will make lively conversation, hopefully one of them lads knows how to do dishes...

Jonathan Coyle:

Kudos on the Brooklyn Daily Eagle headline. Very nice. If a crash did happen, I have a blog ready....I put one together back in September to unleash just in case. Otherwise, it will remain hidden.

Backcountry? It would be nice to have 5000 acres in Idaho or Montana in the middle of nowhere, complete with some big lakes, lots of fish and deer, and no TV. Ohio just doesn't have that type of place....some wilderness.....but still too close to civilization.

Doing dishes? Sure...especially since you'd never want to have my cooking! However, I can field dress and skin wild game, and I can hit a man target with a rifle at 500 yards, thanks to the training of Uncle Sam-so I am not totally useless.

Love the headline :) You got my +3 vote :)

P.S. Looks like POT is setting itself up for the last bull stand :) Be careful

Keith Barton:

Yessir, I'm watching this closely - and thanks for the tutelage on Contrarian style, I've used it to great effect on POT and others.

Show them how it's done, Vad.

KB,
If the you are going to "Head for the Hills" & the High Timber in a kind of Post-Nuclear Holocaust retrogression to the functional Equivalent of the declevity of ' going Native ', Shouldn't you be THE Willliam GOLDing's " Lord of the FLIES ".

I've been making my own preparations for the End of the World as we Know it - I invested in a "Shredder" which I got Cheap as Iraqi War Surplus ( the Former owner, Saddam Hussein, only used it on Sundays ). I plan to make a nutritional food product which I will Brand Name " Soylent Green "

My inspiRATION comes from the 1973 movie starrimg Charlton Heston ( the Omega Man & Moses& honorary Chairman of the NRA ).
ToWit :

Soylent Green is a 1973 dystopian science fiction movie depicting a bleak future in which overpopulation, global warming, and the resulting severe damage to the ecology have led to widespread unemployment and poverty. Real fruit, vegetables, and meat are rare, expensive commodities, and much of the population survives on processed food rations, including "soylent green" wafers (from soy(bean) + lent(il)).

The film overlays the genres of science fiction and the police procedural as it depicts the efforts of New York City police detective Robert Thorn (Charlton Heston) and elderly police researcher Sol Roth (Edward G. Robinson) to investigate the brutal murder of a wealthy businessman named William R. Simonson (Joseph Cotten). Thorn and Roth uncover clues which suggest that it is more than simply a bungled burglary. The film is loosely based upon the 1966 science fiction novel Make Room! Make Room!, by Harry Harrison.

AS Charlton Heston said, " Soylent Green is People - It's PEOPLE ".

PS : I NEVER said, " " Seeeee YAAAAAA ".
I think the Duffer's in his 'CUPS' & imagining things like that. It must be the Proximity of St. Paddy's Green Beer Day/, I also 'BREW' Green Beer using a Soylent Green formula.
