This is my first post -- greetings to all.
Many analogies could be made between surfing and stock picking (ups and downs, the "wave" of institutional buying that one must ride, the pain of a wipeout, etc.). My favorite similarity is that both disciplines require a combination of relaxation and concentration. Surfers are notoriously laid back, but also completely focused on the ride when the time is right. I'm relatively new to both surfing and stocks, but both activities are woth getting up early for, in my opinion. And I try use the word "dude" whenever possible.
Since I find myself in 5th place (by the time you read this, I could be much further down), I thought I should write a quick blurb on my current strategy. It's simple, really. I think the overall market trend is down, so I'm playing that with the Ultrashort S&P 500 (SDS) and diversifying with ag commodities (DBA) and a natural gas royalty trust (SJT). But I do like video game stocks like Activision (ATVI) and Take Two (TTWO) to buck the trend. Video games have their own cycle, and we're still in the sweet spot, dude.
Well, that's all for now. For more of my thoughts, you can check out www.thestocksurfer.blogspot.com. Good luck!
