John Stewart died last month (not the "Daily Show" host but the songwriter and former member of the Kingston Trio). I thought of his song "The New Frontier" inspired by that phrase from a speech by John F. Kennedy in when running for President in 1960. The American public readily adopted the slogan. For some it symbolized our exploration of space. For others it inspired an effort to promote peace and better education while fighting prejudice and poverty. Since that time, although many of our goals have been achieved new challenges have arisen. The nature of the frontier is always changing. The space race helped accelerate computer development and the information age. (Would you believe we went to the moon on only 32 megabytes?) Faster computers enabled us to map the human genome more quickly than anybody thought. Our new biotech capabilities will give rise to new developments that we have not yet dreamed of. As for investing in all this progress? Back in the '60s I would have said that the future looked especially good for IBM with competition from NCR once they developed new products. That's a sobering thought as I try to evaluate companies, today.

Toro, How have you been??? I hope well.
I use a similar analogy asking "do you remember your first phone you saw ."
As you ladies , we have come a very long way.
Learn from the past, live in the present and dream of the future. The Dick Tracey watch phone is here today !!!!
As for me I hope that they continue to improve the craft brews !!!!!
Cheers, DuffBeer

I'm good. I took much of January "off" between contests. Now, work has heated up so I don't have as much time and energy for the contest or blogging. Managing my Marketocracy portfolios takes precedence over creating long, well-thought-out blogs. How about you? Are you planning some new blog posts in conjunction with the 2nd SLO contest?

Bully ( 4 U ), Mistress of Ursus
& a Young & RestLess Ursala AnDRESS look-alike ( in that Poster foto - on a Beach with a Troglodyte CaveWoman Fur Bikini on ).

I, too , am a Major Kingston Trio Fan. Their 1st Political song was written for a Boston Election Campaign and concerned the rising Rates for riding the Subway MetroTransitAuthority - The MTA.

Where Have ALL the Flowers Gone ????
They Call the Wind Mariah.

How about PEACE - The Merry Minuet was teir answer to How the World Turns.

DuffBeer's answer - " Scotch & Soda " /[ jigger of Gin ] & " Three Jolley CoachMen " & " RaspBerries StrawBerries " [ the good wine we BREW (???) ].
As for me - I'm NOT a "Worried man " - I don't care for a "GreenBack Dollar ". so, "
Honey are You Mad @ Your Man ", or WHAT ?!?!?!

The FUTURE is only Limited by our Imagination.
Every Day I seek to Chasnge the Future - for the better. I think we focus too much on technological widgets & Gadgets & too little on the Emotional, Cultural & Spiritual Dimensions of simply being Human and Alive.

Find Happiness and the Future will take care of itself.

Only two things are in continuous, constant demand and really SELL - SEX & the Sacred.

As for the present practicalities - I like Transportation ( RailRoads & Ships ), Materials
& Mining, and Agriculture ( we all gotta eat. Not So ?? ). My most 8 most favorite stocks are CMP, AWC, GMT, NSC, CENX, MEOH,MXWL & NTRZ. I Blogged on each of them in SLO-1 ( when I was actually Competeing, more or Less ).

PS : Toro&BruinSTER, please Dance with me to "Our Song" - The Merry Minuet - written in 1958 during the COLD WAR by Sheldon Harnick ... DLF
